The industrial building featured in this project is a quasi-rectangular prism measuring 50x16 m, comprising 5 floors facing Calle Beatriz Galindo and 7 floors facing Calle Valliciergo (Madrid). Formerly a commercial bakery with a surface area of 1,020 m², the space has been converted into 13 loft-style dwellings. The design seeks to enhance the unique character of the lofts by playing with spatial proportions and capitalizing on the generous ceiling heights to create unusual volumes. Consequently, the primary residential unit is conceived as a tall, deep strip, with its width defined by the building’s existing structural bays. On the facade, the clear height is utilized to incorporate a terrace that provides privacy to the interior, while a mezzanine is positioned above it to serve as a functional utility area. The entire facade is fully glazed to maximize natural light and reinforce the directional focus of the space.
